One bag opener. Different waste streams. Different tine configurations
In this video, Matthiessen demonstrates how the tine configuration of its Bag Splitter is adapted to different waste applications, from mixed municipal waste and light packaging to organic waste and paper and cardboard.
Bag opening is not a one-size-fits-all process. Every waste stream has its own characteristics, requiring a tailored engineering approach.
Configurations for Different Applications
Depending on the application, Matthiessen systems can be equipped with:
- Retractable or fixed tines
- Modularly damped or actively rotating counter combs
🔹 Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) — up to 50 t/h
Designed to open bags efficiently and maintain a stable material flow while avoiding unnecessary damage to valuable fractions.
🔹 Light Packaging — up to 20 t/h
A specially developed ripping comb opens bags containing Tetra Paks, PET bottles, plastic and aluminium cans, preparing materials for downstream sorting.
🔹 Organic Waste — up to 50 t/h
The configuration releases the organic fraction while helping avoid unnecessary shredding. Packaging and bags can then be removed in subsequent processing stages.
🔹 Paper & Cardboard — up to 30 t/h
A dedicated configuration opens and empties bags and bundles while preserving recyclable paper quality and ensuring consistent dosing.
The right tine configuration helps optimize material preparation, improve process stability, reduce material wrapping risks and create a suitable input stream for subsequent sorting stages.
