German battery recycling company cylib has acquired a mechanical battery recycling facility in Bavaria, marking a significant step toward establishing a fully integrated battery recycling value chain in Europe.

The site, which has an annual processing capacity of up to 10,000 tonnes of traction batteries, will mechanically process end-of-life batteries into black mass. The material will then be supplied to Cylib's hydrometallurgical recycling plant under development in Dormagen, where critical raw materials including lithium, graphite, nickel, cobalt and manganese will be recovered.

🏭 According to the company, the acquisition enables Cylib to cover the entire recycling process—from battery collection and mechanical treatment to the recovery of battery-grade raw materials.

The acquisition includes the processing line, building and site, which Cylib plans to upgrade to its operational, environmental and safety standards. Subject to regulatory approval, operations are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, with full capacity targeted by the end of 2027.
