Biffa to Acquire Enva Recycling Businesses in UK in Major Expansion
UK waste management group Biffa has agreed to acquire Enva’s general recycling businesses in England and Scotland, taking over operations that handle approximately 800,000 tonnes of material annually, employ more than 600 people and operate a fleet of over 150 vehicles.
The deal, for an undisclosed sum, covers eight sites: Linwood, Newbridge, Glenrothes and Irvine in Scotland, and Colwick, Wesley Street, Sunningdale and Whetstone in England. It also includes associated waste collection and transport activities.
For Biffa, the acquisition expands its collection and processing network, particularly in the construction and demolition (C&D) waste sector, while increasing the scale of its commercial collections business.
“This acquisition is a strong strategic fit for Biffa and our long-term ambitions,” said Michael Topham, Chief Executive Officer of Biffa. “It further expands our existing capability to recover and recycle materials the construction and demolition sector generates, as well as enhancing our commercial collections business.”
For Enva, the transaction marks the final stage of its strategic refocus, following the sale of its wood business to Seras Energy in September 2026. The company will continue investing in its resource recovery and environmental services operations across the UK and Ireland, including its general waste businesses in Northern Ireland.
Roger McDermott, Chief Executive Officer of Enva, said the agreement marked an important step for the group. He added that Biffa was a well-established business and that Enva was confident its employees and customers would benefit from joining the organisation.
The parties have exchanged contracts, with completion expected in December 2026. Until then, the businesses will remain part of Enva, with both companies working towards a smooth transition.
