CP Group develops AI platform to optimise recycling plant performance

CP Group announced POINT Operator Intelligence™ on 14 October, a platform designed to detect operational deviations at material recovery facilities (MRFs) and recommend corrective actions to improve throughput, material recovery and output purity.

⚙️ The system integrates MSS near-infrared (NIR) optical sorting, Recycleye AI-based computer vision and plant-wide controls. It combines data from optical sorters, Vivid Vision™ over-belt cameras and SCADA systems, including equipment status and motor data. Depending on the configuration, data is processed on site or in the cloud.

POINT compares live operating data with documented performance baselines. It monitors throughput, downtime, motor-load spikes, bunker and silo fill levels, material purity, sorting accuracy and recoverable recyclables in residual streams. It also detects potential conveyor jams, uneven material distribution and poor material presentation to optical sorters.

🔎 The platform generates real-time alerts and recommends corrective actions when performance deviates from expected parameters. Camera-based material analysis can also provide commodity counts and estimated average weights to support material recovery reporting, including under extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes.

POINT is designed for new and existing CP Group systems and selected standalone AI or NIR installations. Cross-system diagnostics linking performance changes to specific equipment and settings require CP Group controls. Automated control adjustments are planned for a later development phase.

Initial installations with early adopters are scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
