Smart DRS processes more than 150,000 reusable cup returns in four months
Smart DRS has processed more than 150,000 reusable cup returns since its first live deployment at the IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship in late April, expanding across major music festivals, cultural events and continuous seasonal operations.
The largest deployments included more than 44,300 returns at the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship, 42,600 at LOVESTREAM and 28,500 at Grape. The two summer festivals alone accounted for more than 71,000 cup returns.
At LOVESTREAM, nine Smart DRS Dual stations provided 18 return points, while seven stations at Grape processed an average of 9,500 returns per day during the three-day festival.
Since mid-July, two Smart DRS stations have also been operating throughout the summer at Tyrsak, a riverside leisure destination in Bratislava. The stations are processing an average of 618 reusable cup returns per day, demonstrating the system’s use beyond high-volume events.
💳 Visitors can return eligible cups and receive their deposit directly to a payment card or supported contactless device, without an app, registration, cash or paper vouchers.
The technology is also designed for single-use Deposit Return Schemes, where it can complement traditional collection infrastructure such as Reverse Vending Machines or operate as an independent and flexible collection method.
📅 Smart DRS expects its first deployment for single-use packaging in September 2026.
