German startup secures €48.2 million to scale fully recyclable wind turbine blades

German cleantech company Voodin Blade Technology has secured €48.18 million from the EU Innovation Fund to build the world's first commercial factory producing fully recyclable wooden wind turbine blades in Spain.

The VB1F project will establish a manufacturing facility in Navarra capable of producing up to 160 sets of blades annually by 2031. Made from laminated veneer lumber (LVL), the blades are designed to replace conventional fiberglass composites, helping address one of the wind industry's biggest end-of-life recycling challenges.

🏭 Unlike traditional blade manufacturing, Voodin's technology uses a fully automated, mold-free production process, enabling local manufacturing, lower production costs and more resilient European supply chains. The project is expected to avoid more than 2.4 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions during its first ten years of operation while creating around 450 local jobs.
