PRE releases mapping of plastic recycling technologies across Europe
Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE) has published a new analytical report mapping plastic recycling technologies across Europe. The report covers mechanical, dissolution and chemical recycling across key material streams, including packaging, WEEE, end-of-life vehicles and construction.
Key findings show that mechanical recycling remains the most mature and widely deployed technology, while dissolution and chemical recycling are progressing through pilot and early commercial stages. The report also highlights efficient sorting as a critical driver for improving recycling performance and material quality.
The analysis is based on industry interviews, data collection, site visits, and a review of patents and literature, offering an evidence-based overview of current capabilities and remaining gaps in Europe’s plastics recycling landscape.
