Germany’s RCS Rohstoffverwertung GmbH has started construction of a new plastics recycling facility in Werne, representing an investment of around €75 million. The new 6.5-hectare site is planned to process up to 100,000 tonnes of plastic materials per year, including HDPE, PS and PET trays.

Focus on food-grade HDPE recycling

One of the key goals of the project is to develop processes for producing food-grade HDPE recyclates. The technology is intended to enable higher-value applications for recycled plastics and contribute to closing material loops.

100,000 tonnes of annual capacity

The new facility will occupy a 6.5-hectare site in Werne and is planned to process up to 100,000 tonnes of plastic materials annually. The feedstock will include HDPE, polystyrene (PS) and PET trays.

The project will significantly expand RCS Group’s existing recycling capabilities and strengthen its position in the processing of post-consumer plastics.

New jobs and regional investment

The facility is expected to create around 60 new jobs once operational, adding further employment opportunities in the region.

With an investment of approximately €75 million, the project represents a major expansion of plastics recycling infrastructure in Germany, with a particular focus on producing recycled materials suitable for higher-value applications.
